Active Campaigns (2016 – 2017)

Fossil Fuel Divestment
Fossil Free UCSD primarily collaborates with the UC-wide campaign, Fossil Free UC. We are asking the UC Regents to freeze and remove investments in the fossil fuel industry and reinvest in renewable energy. In 2015, the UC divested from coal and tar-sands, but we are still pushing for full divestment.

Transportation Justice
Our overall goal for this year is to make UCSD more bike-friendly, and in the long time make bikes more accessible to the UCSD student body. We will be working on improving our Bike-Fix It stations, teaching students how to use them, and repurposing abandoned bikes.

Consumer Waste
For this campaign, we will be focusing on the use of plastic and paper on campus. We want to encourage students to use fewer paper towels in bathroom and increase the usage of reusable bags instead of plastic.

Plastic Water Bottles
We are working to ban the sale of single use plastic water bottle on campus. Plastic takes water, fossil fuels, and energy to make. In 2010, the SSC established Hydration Stations on campus. Since then, we have pushed to encourage the use of reusable water bottles on campus. Last year, Associated Student passed a resolution supporting the campaign.
